Pollination by bees improves firmness and shelflife of strawberries

The 12th scientific price 'Professor Soenen' was granted to Björn Klatt which made a Ph.D. thesis on the interaction between the environment, strawberry plants and pollinators. He showed that firmness, shelf life and yield of strawberries were positively, influenced by wild bees, honeybees and bumble bees and he described the interaction between those pollinating insects. This paper summarizes his work for fruit growers.
