Microbial storage diseases lead to a substantial loss in apple production globally. Here we present a two year trial with the aim to estimate the influence of the orchard management and the apple variety on the apple skin microbiome and the abundance of storage diseases. The apple skin microbiome is of interest because not just single pathogens, but a whole community of different microorganisms control the advent of a storage disease. Additionally, results from field trials using the application of biocontrol agents against storage diseases are presented.
