The quality of cherries is a decisive factor for the added value in the production and retail chain. With an optimized culture management and modern cultivation systems involving roofing, netting, as well as adapted varieties and rootstocks progress was made in the last few years. However, to keep up with the demand for superior quality, further measures are needed. This study allows for a better understanding of the determinants of quality in order to derive practical cultural measures for improving fruit quality.
