Publication about tested varieties in level B in Schweizer Zeitschrift für Obst und Weinbau

A successful new apple variety has to fulfill various criteria and must satisfy different demands. In the variety-testing of Agroscope a continuously verification of new international varieties is carried out with respect to their cultivation characteristics, quality, storability and their popularity amongst the consumers. The goal is to find new varieties with an additional benefit for the producers, marketers and consumers.
In Level-A variety testing of pome-fruits there are planted 5 trees of each variety, afterwards promising varieties are planted in Level-B with an amount of 15 to 20 trees, if the variety proves to be promising even in Level-B it is planted in Level-C with an amount of 50 trees. Interesting varieties that were identified in Level-B are presented in this article, like the fire-blight robust variety Scilate-Envy®, the early ripening Minneska-SweeTango® and the tasty Fresco-Wellant®.
