Hunting the future apple varieties

In the course of the past year, many news were published, which reflect the present boom of the varieties innovation in the apple sector. The apple branch is currently in a crisis. Thus, new varieties are seen as a strategy to be silhouetted against the concurrence (Sansavini and Guerra, 2015). Some of the new varieties are scab resistant varieties, snack apples/children apples, red-fleshed varieties, varieties with a high content of color, varieties with special intrinsic characteristics (like juiciness, crunchiness, aroma and taste), yellow-skinned varieties, and varieties suitable for people with allergies or super-sweet varieties for the Asian market.
