II Eufrin Prunus meeting , 28th-29th July 2016

In this II EUFRIN PRUNUS MEETING developed in Lleida the 28 and 29 July 2017, the main aspects and activities of peach research in different European countries were carried-out. The main topic was about breeding and testing new peach cultivars more adapted to the climate change and less susceptible to the main pests and diseases. The first objective is achieved by the selection of new low chilling cultivars, providing an adequate yield and an increasing eating quality, compared with the existing ones. The second objective is more difficult in peach because the non availability of resistant cultivars to the main pest and diseases, in particular to Sharka and Xanthomonas. The I EUFRIN PRUNUS MEETING was held in ForlĂ (Italy) in July 2015 and was organized by the CREA with the aim (as in apple and pear) to be a reference for the future concerning new cultivar testing and development using a common methodology to be more efficient in terms of cost and possibilities of cultivar comparison among countries, mainly Spain, Italy, Greece and France.
