Exposició i comentari de varietats de Gala i altres pomes d'estiu. 10th August 2016

This regular and annual Open Day Exhibition is focusing on new summer apple cultivars, in particular those of ‘Gala’ group and other technical practices to improve fruit quality. The objective is to provide information about the agronomical performance and fruit quality of different new cultivars in process of testing at IRTA-Mas Badia since 1990. More than 30 strains are in process of testing or have been tested over the last 25 years. The information recorded is transfered to the fruit industry in this case represented by the main companies of the region. ‘Brookfield Gala’ is still the reference strain but new, improved and more stable strains of ‘Gala’ have been released over the last 20 years, most of them with high, intense and uniform fruit colour. The information about those strains is disseminated to the fruit industry. Also in the same open day different training systems and thinning methods were presented to fruit industry.
