Determination of the harvest date - How exact can the harvest date of our regional apple varieties determine in advance?

Based on the phenological stage end of fl owering
(BBCH67) of the very uniformly and safely
fl owering apple variety Braeburn, the temperature
sum to 50 days after fl owering and later the
maturation of sweet cherries and early apple varieties
a forecasting model for the harvest date
for storable apple varieties in the Lower Elbe region
has been developed. Thereafter, the picking
date of important varieties like Holsteiner Cox,
Elstar and Jonagold can quite accurately determine
already at fl owering time with an error of
about ± 4,5 days. 50 days later the forecast accuracy
can be increased to ± 2 days taking into
account the weather conditions, the maturity development
of other fruit varieties and early ripening
apple. Finally with the measurement of the
starch content the exact harvest date of the concerned
apple varieties can be determine.
