Peach and nectarine cultivars technical sheet database

Ctifl’s various missions cover a broad spectrum of actions carried out at the service of the entire fruit and vegetable sector. They more specifically involve experimentation, innovation, information and dissemination.
In the context of the dissemination of experimentation results regarding plant material, Ctifl has created a database containing the main peach and nectarine varieties grown in France. The data are obtained through an experimental network that yields objective knowledge concerning new varieties. This action is conducted in the framework of the French charter for the study of the behaviour of fruit varieties, signed between FNPF (growers), CEP (nurseries), INRA (fundamental research), Ctifl, and regional experimental stations. Ctifl is the coordinator of the network.
Based on yearly observations carried out in the evaluation orchards, fact sheets are drawn up for each variety and entered into the database. The results contained in the database make it possible to discern trends regarding varieties and techniques that might be of interest for operators in the sector. Furthermore, the main commercial and quality characteristics of the varieties are listed.
The database is designed so as to allow, with a simple click, an “instant” display of all the desired information. This information is updated every year, taking into account the effects of climate (bud drop, susceptibility to storage diseases, sugar content, etc.) and ageing of the trees which, for some varieties, can modify their behaviour (bare wood, …) and the distribution of fruit size, as well as goals in terms of yield.
