Publication about tested varieties: Swiss Berry Note 17 - Essais variétal fraise 2016-2017

The publication Swiss Berry Note 17 on strawberry variety testing provides an insight into strawberry variety testing at Agroscope. New varieties are assessed on the basis of qualitative criteria (sugar content, firmness, fruit colour) and agronomic criteria (yield, fruit size, ripening time, resistance or susceptibility to diseases and pests). Tastings supplement these assessments. The evaluation of the varieties takes place in two phases: in the first year, the new varieties are cultivated hors sol under plastic tunnels on the Agroscope site in Conthey as well as in the field on a plot belonging to the Cantonal Office for Fruit and Vegetable Growing (OCACm) in Châteauneuf (VS). On the basis of the results of the first year, the members of the Forum Forschung Beeren select the most promising varieties. In the second year the selected varieties are planted at Agroscope Conthey, in Châteauneuf (OCACm) and at producers in different regions for a second test year (introduction network).
