Introduction
When speaking of pome fruit in fruit production is referred to the fruits that have several seeds in the interior. This document focuses on the most common species in our area: apple and pear.
Currently, in spite of the significant and growing commercial demand for organic fruit, the organic production of fruit trees represents a very low percentage of the total area devoted to fruit in Catalonia.
The initial difficulty of sanitary management and the lack of experience in the management of this type of production (thinning, control of spontaneous vegetation, conservation, etc.) are the main causes of the poor development of the organic production of pome fruit. Throughout this document the most important guidelines are given to know the organical cultivation of the pome fruits and its adaptation to the different productive means.
