Weed control in tree rows is essential in fruit growing. For this purpose used herbicides get more and more under pressure. Especially the use Glyphosate is discussed controversially. Out of this reason Agroscope has evaluated the use of mechanical weed controlling measures instead of herbicides. Different strategies were compared with one another under the aspects of agronomic and economic parameters. From the economic point of view the cheapest measures were the use of leave- and soil-herbicides or the use of leave-herbicides only. This result is caused by lower acquisition costs for the field-sprayer and lower machine labor. Even though the use of mechanical weed control is more expensive it has positive effects like no need for herbicides and positive effects on soil-structure and soil-water-household.
