The EUFRUIT Knowledge Platform is part of a European thematic network of 21 partners including research institutes, universities and industrial partners who represent keyparts of the fruit supply chain from 12 countries.
EUFRUIT Knowledge Platform is an international open access database of electronic documents related to productivity, sustainability and quality of fruit in the European fruit sector. New knowledge on fruit research and best practice approaches at a European level are available in the database. It is possible to search for information in a specific language.
Focuses are on four thematic areas of critical importance to competitiveness and innovation potential of the European fruit sector:

Fighting storage rots in applesPublication in other stakeholder journal/magazine - Fruit quality; improvement of fruit handling/storage The technology for hot water treatment was developed many years ago but it was not used widely due to availability of fungicides. In organic production, however, fungicides are abandoned and alternative methods are needed. Short-term hot water treatment of apple fruits has shown to postpone the development of storage rots if used correctly. Incorrect use results in skin browning… |

Harvest 2017 in South Tyrol (Italy): Quality and storabilityPublication in industry journal/magazine - Fruit quality; improvement of fruit handling/storage The year 2017 was affected by severe spring frosts, which led to many damages and losses. The month of June was particularly warm, which delayed the development of the fruits in lower altitudes. Hail led to additional losses and damages. Noticeably many fruits showed cracking at the stalk end. The reasons for the cracking could be the spring frosts or the heat during an important… |

Cracking and mealy breakdown of apples during storagePublication in technical journal - Fruit quality; improvement of fruit handling/storage Cracking of the apple: Symptoms: first small, superficial cracks in the fruit-skin, grow with increasing ripening and duration of storage, are mainly located in the central area of the fruits. Mostly, not only the skin cracks but also parts of the pulp below. The pulp of the cracked fruits is mealy and at times dry, the fruit loses its juiciness and taste. Often, fungi infest… |
